Antibacterial Effect of Platelet-rich Fibrin:An In-vitro Study

Abstract: Objective To assess the antibacterial effect of platelet-rich fibrin(PRF)on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli mixed bacteria in vitro. Methods The antimicrobial activity of PRF was tested using Oxford cup method. PRF Gel and ampicillin were used as positive controls and sterile water was used as negative control. The diameter of the bacteriostatic zone was measured. Results The mixed bacteria formed by Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli was more sensitive to PRF. The diameter of the inhibition zone using Oxford cup method was(19±0.61) mm. Compared to PRF Gel and ampicillin,there were statistically significant differences(P<0.05). Conclusion PRF has a good antibacterial effect against mixed bacteria.
