Abstract: The purpose of red blood cell transfusion is to increase hemoglobin and improve hypoxia. The reasons that affect transfusion efficacy can be divided into immune factors and non-immune factors.Immune factors include the changes of red blood cells surface molecules, content of metabolites, the influence of immune substances in blood recipients and so on.Non-immune factors include storage damage of red blood cells, disease status of blood recipients and drug effects.Physicians are more concerned with transfusion-related adverse reactions but less with poor red blood cells transfusion responses. Here,we review the potential reasons for the poor responses of red blood cell transfusion,in order to provide theoretical support and new ideas for research and clinical practice.
