Effect of Glutamine on Humoral and Cellular Immune Function in Children with Severe Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease

Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of glutamine on humoral and cellular immune function in children with severe HFMD. Methods 96 children with severe HFMD were enrolled in this study. They were randomly divided into three groups: group C (without glutamine enteral nutrition group,32 cases),group L (low dose 0.2 g / (kg•d) glutamine enteral nutrition group),and group H (high dose of 0.4 g / (kg • d) glutamine enteral nutrition group,32 cases),fasting morning blood on the first day,the eighth day and the fifteenth day of enteral nutrition support,The serum levels of IgA,IgG,IgM,CD4,CD4/CD8,and the nosocomial infection rate and hospital stay time in the three groups were recorded and compared. Results After the treatment,serum levels of IgA,IgG,IgM,CD4 and CD4/CD8 in three groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (all P<0.05),and The levels of serum IgA,IgG,IgM,CD4 and CD4/CD8 in group L and group H were significantly higher than those in group C (all P<0.05),The levels of serum IgA,IgG,IgM,CD4 and CD4/CD8 in group H were significantly higher than those in group C and group L (all P<0.05),all the differences were statistically significant. The infection rate and hospital stay in H group and L group were lower than those in C group (all P<0.05). The infection rate and hospital stay in group L were lower than that in group C (all P<0.05).Conclusion glutamine can improve the immune function of children,which can enhance the humoral and cellular immune function of children,reduce the damage of virus to children,and is worthy of popularization and application.
