Abstract: Objective To analyze the effects of two different detection modes on the effectiveness of blood screening from 2010 to 2015. Method sThe retrospective and chi-square test were used to analyze the number of donators and volumes of blood collected and discarded. Results Mode 2 composed of gold labeled fast detection for HBsAg,dry chemical method for ALT,ABO typing, physical examination of the donors, followed by re-detections of nucleic acids and antibodies to ALT,HBsAg,HCV,syphilis,HIV,and ABO blood group and RHD type etc. A total of 1 546 938 blood donors were collected . Among them,5.19% and 3.82% of blood were discarded when examined by the two modes of profile detections due to positive nucleic acids or antibodies against ALT,HBsAg,HCV,and syphilis. A significant difference of positive rates between the two modes was noted. Conclusion Mode 2 is appropriate for detection of infectious agents and effective for reduction of blood wastage.
