Abstract: Objective To investigate the association between eosinophil counts (EOS), renal function in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods A total of199blood samples of patients with CKD in nephrology were collected from October2017to September2018to measure the absolute blood eosinophil counts, renal function by detection of urea, creatinine, uric acid, cystatin C, retinol binding protein. Results Single factor correlation analysis showed that EOS was negatively correlated with estimated glomerular filtration rate(r=-0.206, P=0.003)and positively correlated with urea(r=0.234, P=0.001), creatinine(r=0.233, P=0.001), cystatin C(r=0.200, P=0.007), retinol binding protein(r=0.164, P=0.027). Multilevel linear regression analysis showed that EOS was only negatively correlated with eGFR (P=0.028). Patients with advanced stages of CKD had increased eosinophil counts. Sixteen cases (8.04%) had eosinophil counts more than500/μL, named as peripheral blood eosinophilia (PBE), all of whom presented severe renal dysfunction(CKD stage4or5). Conclusion Elevated eosinophil count is associated with renal functional insufficiency in patients with CKD, routine eosinophil count detection may help evaluate the renal functional insufficiency in patients with advanced CKD or dialysis.
