Abstract: ABO blood group antigens are expressed on the membranes of many tumor cells, but in some cancer patients, a weakened expression of A and B blood group antigens on tumor cells can be observed, which is often associated with tumor progression. The role and mechanism of the weakened expression of ABO blood group antigens in the occurrence and development of tumors are still unclear. Recent studies have shown that the methylation status of CpG islands in the promoter region of ABO genes may be related to the expression of ABO blood group antigens. This article aims to provide a brief review of the role and mechanism of ABO genes promoter methylation in the weakened expression of ABO blood group antigens in tumors.
