Abstract: Objective To uncover the situation of syphilis infection among voluntary blood donors in Fuyang so as to provide the information for prevention from the blood-transmission of syphilis. Methods The screening results of syphilis antibodies in 156 740 unpaid blood donors were analyzed from January 2014 to December ~2016 retrospectively. Results The serological prevalence of syphilis was found to be 0.45% when antibodies against syphilis tested，with a yearly decrease of the antibody positive rates. The frequency of syphilis infection was higher in female than in male but no remarkable difference was seen in age. Conclusion It is essential to strengthen the organization and education to and consultation with the unpaid blood donors as well as to use the reagents with high quality，specificity and sensitivity for further reduction of the risk of syphilis infection.
